Do I have 4-HI and 4-LO?

this is prolly dumb, but....

I dont have a knob that says what is what....I dont feel any positions like my truck...

its got a AMC 304 with a 3 speed transmission...dont know which one....

all the way forward seems to be 2wd....

seems like only one other position(all the way to the floor) is 4wd.....

is that it?

All the way back should be 4hi, 1 forward is 2hi,1 forward is neutral and all the way forward 4lo. that's what mine is.

All the way forward is 4hi, 2hi, N, and then all the way to the rear is 4 low.

should there be a definite feel to where they are....it just feels like one big movement with no "notches"....

also should i backup after taking out of 4wd and unlocking hubs

My case has a distinctive feel to pop it into gear. Try moving it all the way forward, then try to push it farther forward since you said all the way forward seemed like 2.

Check the linkage and make sure the selector shaft from the t.case is attached to the linkage.

well i went back and forth a few times and now there is....I guess maybe it hasnt been in 4wd for a while....the one pic is all the way forward(4HI)...and the other is 2WD...right....
