electric fan in xj

it occured to me that i have never seen the electric fan in my 2000 xj 4.0 work, wheres the fuse?is there a sensor in there somewhere? i have no fuse labeling at all. should i replace the whole unit?is this a common issue? thanks in advance

Fuse#5 on the pdc.

Also the plug on radiator support going to fan may be loose or bad

Power Distribution Center, commonly known as the fuse box under the hood. May also be a relay in the pdc.

thanks, feel like an a#* for not knowing that, any common ways of checking the relays for failure?

Swap it with the fuel pump relay and see if the Jeep runs.

relays are diff. sizes.

If you have a gremlin and cant seem to get it working you could always just run it on a toggle switch…im usually totally against rigging stuff up but as a last resort it works lol

thank you matt, thats a thought. im very surprised at the price of replacing these fan units. think im gonna replace the relay first and see what happens.

The electric fan doesn't work always, even while the A/C is on.
In my XJ it starts to work only when the temp is ~105C
Did you check it in that temp too?

yes ive checked it at a variety of temps, even pulling over on the pike on a hot day, it just dosent work.
