I have a 200 2.4l wrangler and was looking to put a 4.0 in there. Wanted to know if it is possible, a good idea, and if so waht i need to buy or change to accomplish it. Will all jeep 4.0l engines work? :-? [addsig]

your best bet would be, assuming you don't want to just sell it and buy a 6cyl, find a wrecked TJ of the same year, pull out only what you need Engine, trany, TC, radiator, computer, suspension, wiring and linkages, and swap them over, then try to re sell the wrecked jeep for parts. Oh ya, even better, just leave it alone and do a V8 swap down the raod when you accually need an engine. Just my ideas and opinions

I second the V8 swap... you will want it eventually, the 4.0 can't compare. Plus, less wiring if its an old V8![addsig]

The 2.4L has only recently been available in the Jeep, so you haven't had it for long. Why didn't you buy the 4.0L? It will be MUCH cheaper and easier to trade it in on a 4.0L Jeep. To even consider butchering the engine compartment and voiding the warranty on such a new Jeep is ridiculous.[addsig]

switching your 4 cyl for a 6 is a huge job. You'll have to cut the motor mounts move them have them welded back in. Change the complete wiring harness front to back. change the computer. The transmission, transfercase, driveshafts, etc. If you really want a four liter, trade yours in on one. Or deal with with the 2.4 until you can do a proper v8 swap. I did the 4cyl to 4.0L swap in my 87 yj. After two months of working on it , the novelty of having a 6 was wearing off. Igot it done but what a big job.It was much easier when I finally bought my tj.[addsig]
