Well...as soon as my wife gets the pictures scanned in I will post some pics of what people around me are calling hoss's yeller jeep (my new 2002 TJ) But till then I have some questions.

1. I am planning to install my 2m ham radio and am wondering where most people mount antennas on soft tops? I am not really fond of cutting holes in my jeep.

2. I have a tow strap and will be mounting tow hooks this weekend. Any more good first upgrade ideas for this weekend

3. What performance upgrades will give me the most bang for my buck outta my little 2.5L (love the MPG :) )

4. How can I make the weather warm up faster so I can go topless....... :p

5. Are the factory service manuals worth the $110 that mopar wants for them? Will a chiltions or haynes work as good or better?

TIA,

Hoss

Good that you are happy with the new Jeep. Congrats.
1. mount to the frame if you can find a hole to bolt to. YJs have a great hole on top of the frame passenger side just beside the body mount. flat bar anttana mount worked for me.

2. Get you some good off road lights.

3. Let it breath get a K&N filter on the intake.

4. Waer a Coat and hat.

5. 6 of one half dozen of the other.

Enjoy the ride. Tug[addsig]

My cousin used to mount his antenae to the tire rack and run a ground wire to the chassis. He used to get a 1 flat match with that set up.............Bullet[addsig]

  • 4.0L Throttle Body
  • 4.0L Throttle Body spacer
  • Airtube and conical K&N filter
  • Cat-back performance exhaust
  • Electric fan in place of mehanical fan
  • Perfromance hi-output coil
  • Quality plug wires and Champion Truck plugs gapped at .050"

This is just for starters. There is a lot of engine work that can be done, I'll be installing my Mopar Performance camshaft soon, we'll see how that helps the little engine that could  [addsig]

Yeah, what they said.... ;-)

Something else that you may consider would be front sway bar disconnects. Even with a stock suspension, this would increase you flex (offroad) by at least 3-4".

You can purchase a set for usually $100 or there a do-it-youself plans available on the web (I'll look and post if I find the site I'm thinking of).

Have fun with your new baby! Welcome to the addiction! Patti :) [addsig]

As far as the tow hooks go, I use the standard ones in the front with no problem. The problem came with mounting hooks in the rear. Simple solution was to mount a hitch receiver. Now I can mount a ball, basket for storage to the trails, bike rack, and a winch mount if neccessary. I'm also going to add one to the front as soon as the $$ comes in so I can swap the winch. Also, with the stock suspension, the receiver comes just a hair under the gas tank, and Nate can tell you, after hitting it hard on the rocks, if it weren't there, I'd be buying a new tank.

I've got a little four-banger too.... it just not that little anymore. For performance upgrades to the engine, all I did was take out the venturi in the air duct between the airbox and the throttle-body (took me 5 minutes). I also installed a Borla cat back exhaust system. It's kinda loud but gives a lot more pep. As for all the other jazz you can get.... it's not really worth the cash for the minimal amount of improvement it provides. Your better off buying lower gears if your looking for more power. Feel free to check out my website if you're looking for mods to do, I've got them all listed there. www.drewfuss.alloffroad.com
