FM Red River Flood 2009

Just thought I'd start a thread on the flood for this year for Fargo, Moorhead and other towns on the river nearby. The comments section of In-Forum is difficult to have a discussion in due to the trash talk. If anyone has any news, pics, stories etc please post them! I'll add mine as we get closer to flood time.

What are your thoughts? I've heard some people saying they don't believe we'll even get it bad here, but it's rising a couple feet a day and it doesn't look good.

Also, does anyone in the area need help sandbagging their property?

I took some photos the last few days, and will be posting a couple of them here as well as a link to my Flood 2009 Picasa photo album if anyone is interested. If other have photos, please post them!

Here's a link to the photos I took so far:

Picasa Web Albums - Red River Flood 2009...

Citizens can be arrested for getting in the way of flood efforts, so we walked a couple miles to get anything. My sister (shown in a photo or two) is being bussed over to areas daily to help sandbag, and we will be going out again today after I leave work to help more. We only have til Friday to get this stuff done

Here are a few pictures from the album...part 1 of 2

Lol no thoughts of moving for now...I'm lucky enough to be in a pretty safe area, West Fargo. However, I do have family members that live less than 3 miles from the river in a basement level apartment :(

There is still snow on the ground!! How cold is it there?

We do business with that concrete company in your album...

There was not much snow left yesterday due to the warm temps of high 40s for the last week or so, but we had a storm come through and dump a ton snow on us last night along with cold temperatures. It really hasn't helped with the fight...it's 23 degrees right now, so sandbags froze over night (can't stack frozen bags!) and it's rough working in the cold.

I really wish I could get further in to take photos...it's important to record things like this!!! Unfortunately there are guards all over to keep "rubberneckers" out of the way and you must be a member of the media of a sandbagging group to get down near the water or homes and I can't bring the camera out when I'm sandbagging without it getting wrecked :(

oh and btw, those photos were not from today so the new snow isn't in any of the photos. The snow that was in the photos was just still left over from our record breaking snowfall this winter.

You all are much better men/women than me....First I can't stand the cold, then wind, snow, rain and flooding on top of that...I think I will take our heat, tornado's and such down here!!

Man, kis86, I feel for ya'!! Been through lots of floods in my younger life........then moved south into the hurricane belt (now THERE'S a good choice!!). That's the Red River!! That means all that water's coming down here!! I'll probably be posting in a week or so about our flooding woes (the jobsite, anyway........I'm pretty safe where I live).

mud4feet, luckily for you the Red River flows North so don't worry about it coming to you. However, anyone in Canada North of us might want to worry! I'll post more pictures tonight.

Oops, my bad!! Yeah, different Red River. I was thinking of the one that flows between Texas and Oklahoma/Louisiana and Arkansas. You're right, look out, Canada!!!!

I'd buy a Yacht so it would be much easier to relocate when it floods. I'd call it the flowing wet estate.

haha yep it would be easier if our houses would float! ...updating with more pictures within the next hour

I hate to see all the flooding you guys are going through! Our house got flooded bad back in 1998. That was a big Nightmare. Luckily, we havn't had a bad one since then. You guys be safe and prayers are with ya.

A few more photos. These are in the albums, but I wanted to upload a few to see here.
