hi everyone, so i just came back from a machineshop where im getting a driveshaft lengthen to fit in my tj. i told them the measurement while the jeep is on a level surface, and then deducted an inch so that i could have one inch of play when my left tire flex up and 2 when it goes down. is that good? thanks

Usually when giving length to have a shaft made you give the length from C/L to C/L while at rest on level ground. I have never had to subtract or add anything to allow for suspension travel because they already know to do that. I think your shaft will end up 1" too short now.

the measurments I supply the dirveshaft shop when I order a shaft

all measurements are center of trunion to center of trunion;

length at ride height
length at full compression
length at full droop

generally I will take the length difference between compression and droop and then I will add about 4" for what the desired slip shaft length should be, not as a "just in case" measure, but I generally don't like driving around at ride height with only 50% of splines egagement on the drive shaft additionally provides for more engagement at full droop; most drive shaft specific shops will not know this since 99% of the products they build do not need astronimical amounts of compression and extension.
