Getting ready to blow it up!

This is driving me over the edge. 95 Cherokee 4.0
New battery, wires, plugs, rotor, cap, coil and fuel filter etc. The damn thing will only start when it wants to, It seems to start the worst in the cold but it has fuel. Spark is random, sounds stupid I know but it sometimes has spark and then it is gone. Most of the time it will crank for a few minutes and then kick in but this am when I wanted to go early shopping I can't get it to start for nothing.

Does anyone have ANY idea's? I have been thru the whole list in the haynes manuel of won't start item's.

Thanks,

Have you checked the CPS (Crank Position Sensor)? I'm no mechanic, but I read alot, and from what I've read, a bad CPS can cause some really, really wierd, hard to diagnose symptoms. From what you describe, it sounds to me like something computer/sensor related - the mechanics sound fine.

Well it's fixed, it wasn't the CPS after all. I had a broken wire on the bottom of the distributer and get this, the major problem was a broken vapor vent on the top of the gas tank. No idea how it got broke and fell into the tank but it is replaced now and running like a charm.

Thanks for the reply Mud

Hey, great to hear you solved the problem and didn't "blow it up"!!!!;) Like I said, I'm not a mechanic! Must've been loads of fun findin' that "broken vapor vent"!! Jeezzz!!!!! Congrats!
