Going 2wd?

I'm thinking of going full on retro cruiser with my Wagoneer. Maybe even putting my Wagoneer body on a 2wd Tahoe chasis if it will fit, just thinking out loud right now, don't even know if you can. If anybody knows of any sources of 2wd projects or threads regarding this, please help me out. I saw one in JP magazine bout a year ago that was pretty sweet.

I have a friend with a waggy with a warmed over 401 (original motor too) his is still 4wd, but he did lower it a little. basically new springs in the front and a single triangulated 4 link rear with some coil overs from a fox body mustang kit of some type. stock steel 15" rims with stock dog dish hub caps. painted a cream color with red pin stripping on it, its a sweet daily driver.

oh to add, if you want to go 2wd, look for a DJ front axle, you will have to widen it, and re-drill your rear axle for 5 on 5.5 bolt pattern. it will take some work, but can be bolted into your waggy. also unsure what your drivetrain is, guessing amc 360, I am fairly positive a th400 from a twd car/truck can bolt in.

Did you go through as jps4jeep as mentioned above was that help full for you. did you also look for DJ front axle. if still you need some help let us know.

Well I've done more thinking and "research" and the wheelbase of a 2005-2010 Grand Cherokee and Commander, and my '90 Waggy is less than an inch difference. Would it be possible to put my body on the other chasis? They made an SRT8 version of the GC so that would be pretty sweet to have hidden underneath!:shades:

no, grands are unit body.. they don't have frames.

another though to make yours 2wd, and this is kinda thinking outside the box, cut your axle's inner castings off, press out the tube slug set your WMS (trac wideth) and just weld a pice of DOM tubing inbetween, essentially eliminating the front diff. should allow you more space to drop the front of the vehicle a little.

BUT>>> a 04 and on dodge durango would work, it was done and covered in popular mechanics once. a long time ago though, I will look for the link.

The popular mechanics website does not list it any longer.
