I would buy/build a custom 9" housings and axles, I don't "swap" axles but I see why there aren't more since you can't really bolt one up. I just can't see buying that POS axle then spend money on the C-clip elimianator etc. I'm just biased....I hated that axle 
I'm not going to do things in stages for this Jeep but I sure did on my race car and it was 100% worth it. Having a car sit for a year or more to save for a bigger part is stupid when you can be enjoying it! Sure it cost more but I had more fun.
I'm pretty sure I'm going with the Rubicon 5.5" Tri-link suspension kit. For $3000 anyone know of a better kit? An issues with this kit?
