The Dui is in!

Its huge. I thought the old TFI setyup I had was large, but this HI power HEI is gigantic. Its very smooth. Idle is clean, and a relativly small amount of gas is needed get it going, but when you drop the hammer, hold on!

Installation was a snap, the hardest thing(not hard) was removing all the old duraspark TFI crap. I had to undo all my wire looms and such. Its great though, was not cheap, but it was half the cost of MSD, reliable, waranteed, and great performance. I recommend it for sure.

THe only issue I have now is the pinging. I dont like using timing lights, I more or less drive it a mile, adjust timing, drive, adjust... I cannot get rid of the ping. Sounds like a tamborine in my engine whrn I hit the gas hard.
I broke out the light tonight and still couldnt retard it down under 16 degrees BTDC. I dunno. I played with the weber a lil, but still, if I want it to idle at 800, it will ping.

Anyone know the answer? Im sure its right in front of my face..!

RE: Radiator Stop Leak

The DUI should have come with some extra springs for the mechanical advance inside the distributor. Play with those.

Second thought is the Weber. They only work right for about 15 minutes after you take them out of the box. Try fattening the mixture up a little.

Excessive carbon deposits can also contribute to pinging when a hotter spark is introduced.

It's a pretty sweet setup. I've got mine set to about 12 or so btdc. I'm running it with the MC 2100 instead of the weber, and havent had any issues with pinging. Did you cap off the vacuum advance when you were setting the timing? I noticed a difference when i hooked the vacuum advance up after setting the timing. I'm not sure where my idle is right now as I havent gotten my tach to work yet, but it seems to be running quite a bit lower than with the carter (of course I had turned the idle way up just so that I could get the engine to not stall out when I came to a stop sign). New plugs regapped per PD's instructions?

RE: Dealership is trying to pull one over

I love the DUI's, ran one on my Camaro for years. I had to open my plugs up another .010 to make it run smoothly.

Re: RE: Rim protection

The vacuum advance hose must be plugged, and the CEC Switch must be unplugged for a proper timing.

Hope that helps

thanks for all the responses!

I have had it almost a week now, and have since got it runnning like a champ! It idles at 4-500, glug, glug, glug, glug!!
I have the plugs at .050, and finnally got rid of the pings. It was just WAY advanced, like 30+. I have it now at 14, and it runs awesome. So much smoother and the pick up and responce is more thatn i thought..

great mod, for both performance and reliability.
