Can I replace just that part? I can't seem to find a direct replacement so in guessing I just answered my own question

Well looking at my shaft it has no splines that it looks like, the only way I see now is actually popping out the joint and replacing it, I just can't find the right joint, maybe its time the to upgrade the whole assembly

Only place to get the u joints is the junk yard. There not designed to be replaced. The caps are thin metal and crumble when you try to get them out. It can be done. I've seen a guy do it. Only other option is to replace the whole shaft.

google lower steering shaft ujoints, there is a company out there that sells upper and lower and even the main shaft. I cant think of the name of them though. it starts with a B. (burgstein) or somthing like that. They have all differant types of joints. They cater to the hot rod and custom guys.

Iv heard of borgeson sure I spelled it wrong, I may just replace the whole thing since the other joints are proubly on there way out to. Still trying to find the better way to do it since borgeson wants 500 for upper and lower

Ya I know its pricey lol almost had a heart attack, but I'm looking through the salvage yards for a decent temporary replacement

Duct tape:?|

Be sure the bolt at the gear box is tight. Just swapped the gear box and didn't tighten the bolt tight enough and thought I still had slop. Watched the steering shaft u-joint torque towards the engine when turning. Tightened it up and all is well.

I'm afraid duct tape couldn't cure this problem, the joint blew out some how, so when I would turn the steering would bind up, scary the 1st time it happend thought I blew out the steering gear

Wasn't serious about the duct tape. But did want to share my experience with the loose bolt at the gear box.

You might be able to find it at a little more reasonable price at 4WD hardware or Esentials.

I just went a jeep salvage yard close to my house and just picked up a good used shaft for 50, then its time to start saving up some pay checks then its time to upgrade the whole steering shaft

Many race car suppliers offer universals. I believe though most are set up to accept round rod/tubing (not splined).

Before I went to the salvage yard I was debating on cuting up the old shaft and just using one of those univerasal joints, but I had to idea the spline count in the gear box side and the exact lenght of the whole piece so I kinda ditched that idea, but I got everything squared away and the salvage yard part was actually in good condition and came with a 9 month exchange warranty
