Will a hard top from a CJ7 fit a 93 wrangler? i know the the tail gate looks diffenrt but, will it fit fine without haveing anything done to it? Please let me know if someone swaped thiers.
thanks

I tried to put a CJ7 top on my 88 Wrangler and it didn't fit. I'm not sure what it was but I think the top was too short or too long to fit.

Used an 89 wrangler hardtop on my 85 CJ for years. I believe the CJ and YJ body sizes are the same, except for the tailgates.

To one up that, I did a body swap using an 88 body on my 85 frame.

Don't know about the 93's though. I'm sure someone else will have more info

Yea i think they are the same but the tailgate is differnt. Im not sure what i have to do to the tailgate.

Tops will fit but you will either have to notch the bottom of it (if possible) or take your spare off the stock rack or you won't be able to open anything. CJ's had the swing away spare and the lift gate opened BEFORE the tailgate.

But will i still be able to open my tailgate? (mine is swing away and his opens down) I dont have a spare tire on the jeep anyway. So i have open the liftgate 1st then the tailgate? If thats the case than its fine, Will the my swing away tailgate sit flush with the Cj7 liftgate?
thanks

You'll have to open the liftgate on the top first (which is not easy with a spare in the way) THEN you can open the tailgate. You can grind the bottom of the liftgate on the top out so the tailgate will open without opening the liftgate on the top, but you'll have a little gap there and it will take some work to grind enough out to let the tailgate clear. If you're not carrying a spare it really shouldn't be a problem at all, but you will have to open the top up before you can open the tailgate. YJ and CJ7 tubs are the same dimensions. Hardtops and doors are interchangable from 76 to 95 as far as fit goes. The only thing that changed were the different latching systems, and you can fix that on the jeep to make a set of doors/top fit.

might be wrong on this, but i'm 99% sure the '92+ wranglers have the rear roll cages "squared out"... (90 degree angle) around the back seat, while the pre-92's as well as the CJ's have the roll cage at a 45 degree angle...

maybe?

You will have no problems if you are not carrying a spare. You will have to open the liftgate first before you swing open the tailgate. Roll cage and top designs changed over the years but the dimensions of the tops and tubs remained the same.

I had a CJ hardtop on my 92 Yj. It worked fine, but I had to notch the fiberglass where the metal braces from the rollbar attatched to the windsheild. The tailgate issue can be annoying. I ended up making my own tailgate out of plexiglass.
