head gasket water jackets blocked off

Helllo everyone I have a 95 Cherokee 4.0 h.o. and when I changed the head gasket the passenger side water jackets on the head were blocked off. So we took a dremmel and opened them up. And now it runs way cooler with no issues. Anyone know why they would block them off?

Usually they block them off to create a restriction to allow proper heat absorption. The temp of the coolant may be cooler but the engine may be running warmer if the coolant can't absorb the proper heat. But really hard to tell if that's the case.

But if the coolant can't absorb the heat the temp would he higher. I don't doubt it but I haven't had any issues. Still heat up to 210 never over . Near or under.

When idleing in blazing heat that is. Don't know how it will react it cold wheather

Yup but the heat is measured through the coolant.
