help guessing my lift... (cj7)

hello all -

I am now the proud owner of a 1981 CJ-7 (going on 3 months now, and it IS a Jeep thing, and i do understand!)

anyway, quick question, i have an old Rancho lift kit on it and I have no idea how many inches. It looks like the stock shackles are still in use but the springs are not stock. the measurement under my front bumper shows 22" and the measurement under the lowest part of the transfer case skidplate shows 13.5"

the reason I ask, I want to replace the very rough riding springs with something a little more road and trail worthy but would like to keep the same ride height.

oh, and 31" tires btw...

Thanks and cant wait to get some pics up!
Brad.

ps. it is also my daily driver FYI

700R4 or TH 350?

OK we measured Sully's stock 82 CJ with 30" tires

Under Front bumper Stock 19",under rear bumper 18 1/4, under Tcase 10"

Then we did a 2" rancho lift with HD 1/2 longer shackles and 31" tires

Under Front bumper 21 1/2",rear bumper 21" under Tcase 11 1/2"

you might have a rancho 2" lift, the t-case (D300) or skidplate might be different,or bashed in.

Gas Leak!!! Comming from the rear...

cool! thanks for the help. it has some old rancho RS5000s (with the real old label on em) and it rides like a rock.

anyone have any sugestions on a lift for a daily driver / weekend warrior rig?

Brad.

My suspension is great.I have a rancho 2 inch suspension lift. With RS9000 shocks. And I love it.Stiff on the road, and excellent offroad.I like it alot. And my 31's fit great under the fenders.

I have a 2.5 BDS suspension coming soon and I will let you know how it rides or acts for that matter. My CJ is also a daily driver and has 31 BF AT's on it.

I remember the older Rancho systems where "very" stiff. I think but can't confirm they ride a whole lot better then that now. Although with that shiny new looking steering stabiler in your pic, I am not sure if yours is really that old. The Old Rancho (80's), Trail master and Procomp all ride real harsh. I have my fingers crossed on this BDS system.

Nice looking CJ by the way!!!

now you have me thinking i just need new shocks...
here is a closer pict of the rear suspension

I've got the 3.5 BDS on my YJ, it was a little bouncy when I first put it on, but now that the springs are broken in (didn't take long), it rides extremely well on the road. I carpool with a guy who has the same year YJ with a 2.5 OME lift and mine has a comparable ride (he's pissed because I paid just over half of what he paid and have 1" more lift). I haven't had a chance to take it for any hard off road action yet (just tromping around some feilds and some ez trails) but I give it a thumbs up. The price is right, too  .
