How to trouble shoot 4WD indicator lights on instrument panel (next to speedo)

It's an electrical switch on the vacuum disconnect motor attached to the front axle. The problem is most often a vacuum leak not allowing the vacuum disconnect to function as designed.

An easy test is to remove the 4 bolts holding the vacuum disconnect to the front axle (passenger side). With the key in the run position (engine off), move the shift fork by hand and see if the dash light activates.

In the '95 YJ, if the dash light isn't activated, good chance the front axle is not engaged, leaving you with 2wd.

Post up what you find.
