first off be certain that i have never done a lift before and have no clue what i am getting into.
I have looked al around the net at different brands of lifts and things that will have to go along with them.
I guess i should state for the record what i have going here, she is a 96 cherokee sport with an auto trans and the 4.0ho motor that has had some internal mods done. lets put it this way, she is faster than your average cherokee :)
what my needs for the lift are, at least 3" of real lift, and the kit has to have a new set of rear leafs.(mine are shot to hell and back) and CAN NOT exceed $700 in total price shipping included. ($500 would be that much better) I'm really straped.
( i dont want the lift to affect the way the cherokee drives in any way) maybe a little body roll would be ok, but i dont want any drive live vibes or binding.

now a few questions, if I do a 3" lilft am i going to have to have a trans drop? brake extentions? longer shocks?
I seen a few lifts that have caught my attention form rough country and rustys. i am not fond of the rustys lift because they are wanting $150 for just shipping. which would bring the total cost over the limit by 75 or so.
btw I am looking at the 4.5" lifts because they are the ones that seem to come with everything. the roughcountry one though dosent seem to have rear brake line extension though.

as you can probably tell i am in serious need of some professional help here guys.

I love the rough country lift. For the money I feel you will get as good of a lift as there is. Of course more money equals more quality. Check with FollowMyRuts.com for the best deal I was able to find. tug

spring it over, get an sye off ebay and buy a driveshaft and get the rubicon express spring over kit deal thing, comes out to around 600 if you do it right and know a welder, takes a little more time and effort but you get 5 to 6 inches out of it, find someone with experience to help you

THATS IT. thx a billion. http://www.followmyrutz.com/catalog_2/product_info.php?cPath=21_37_519&products_id=1667
is the lift i have been looking at and looks like it is complete. not to mention $150 cheaper than what i could find it for.
can someone confirm that it has everything that i would need to get the job done besides tools and my blood sweat and tears? LOL

:? Before you plan on a SOA on an XJ.....you might want to go out and look up under it.

check out the rusty's lifts again. i looked at the pricing to make sure i remembered correctly... and the full 3" kit is $418 plus shipping of $72... so thats under $500. the kit comes with everything you need: full rear spring packs, front coils, brake line extension bracket, longer shocks, everything. you won't find a better price... i looked forever when i went to buy mine last summer. i've been really pleased with the rusty's kit... it handles extremely well, gets good flex, and is built tough. so... good luck-

well lets see here!! LOL
the motor has been rebuilt with less than 15K on it. the block was machined, crank was balanced, bore was incresed .15 over, the head was ported and polished, all new valvetrain up top, and it has been chiped. she also has a flowmaster cat back exhaust.

again just a little faster than a stock cherokee!! he he.
now i just need to get a header and a hi pro ignition system.

springs over axle? that means the leafs right? LOL still kinda new here so dont get to bent ! LOL if you mean that it has leafs and NOT coils in the rear then yes. there are coils in the front though.

ok I jsut went out and had to make damn sure but the leaf pack is on top of the axel.

in that kit does it matter what the diameter of the axel is? it looks fairly big and guessing i would say 3" but i will have to get out the caliper to make certain of that.

i serisouly think i am going to try to get the money for the 4.5" rough country. that would look great on my xj. and i am having a really hard time finding anything else that is even close to as complete as that kit is for that amount of bang per dollar.

how exactly do i tell what rear axle is under there? some kind of vin to decode or something?

mine has a tag. if you have a new quadratec catalog there is a schematic for both the dana35 and the chrysler8.25

so if my axle dosent have any numbers on it onthe right side of the rear differential then that means that it is in fact the chrysler 8.25" right? only the dans are marked on the axle tubes themselves.

I believe it is in fact the chrysler one because on the differential there are all kinds of chrysler makrings, so.

and is the np231j trans case a decent one?
