I have a chance to buy a wrangler from and insurance company but the wrangler was completely submerged in flood waters. It was all the way to the roof. I can’t inspect the jeep before I buy it. I think it was just parked during the flood in Florida. What sort of engine damage or any other damage can I expect?

complete total.....Salt water will ruin everything it touched...

if it was gonna be a dedicated off roader where you were gonna strip it out, V8, new transmission, T case, Axles, and electronics fuel system, etc... I would say go for it, if your just looking for a cheap ride, forget it.

It may run now if you let all the electronic stuff dry out...but everything will start corroding VERY soon if it hasn't already.

I wound not give over $500 given the saltwater factor.

Too much $$. You may want to check into what it will take to get it registered as the ins. company is required to title it as a flood vehicle.

What about fresh water flood?

You'll still have TONS of problems in the future with all the electronics.

I probably wouln't give more than $500 for it either. But even then...it would only be if I was buying it for a parts jeep and needed stuff that it had. I sertainly wouldn't want the pain of trying to make it right again.

i see pics of people of roading and their jeeps are half way in the water and mud. Some even have a snorkle.... how is that any better or worse?

Time submerged has a lot to do with it. Most folks wheelin won't submerge the interior either.

You can probably salveage the body, axles, transfer case, wheels etc.. with some cleaning. The engine and transmission would have to be rebuilt. The wiring, gauges, fuel injection, carpet, soft top, air ducts, etc will be junk.
A lot of work would be required and you would still have a vehicle with a "Salveage Title." If you ever try to sell it again it will have minimal value.
I would pass on it even for $500. You will be buying major headaches.

They have snorkels...that's why they can do it. They also probably used silicone or some other type of sealant to seal all electrical boxes and everything else to keep water from getting where it should not be. Even though it wasn't running, from sitting any lengh of time submerged like that, the water would have gotten into every little nook and cranny in the vehicle. People driving though deep water are usually in and out fast enough that the water doesn't usually have time to get into all those little areas.

If you're real set on getting the rig, then go for it. But, I'm just saying it's something I would never do cause you have NO idea of the damage and what additional problems will come up in the future.
