Hi,

I am new to the world of 4x4 and some advice would be really appricate. I have a 2004 jeep cherokee 2.4 sport (I think the model in the U.S is called liberty - I am in the U.K) I was driving and decided to stop for five minutes. When I tryed to start the engine to continue my journey the engine started and the rev counter whent to 1000 and then the engine cut out. this happened twice. then the engine would not turn over at all. I then noticed the key light on the dashboard was flashing. I waited about 5-10 minutes the car then started fine. Would anyone know what this could of been?

Sounds like you have an immobilizer problem. For some reason the sensor detected an unautherized key trying to start the car. after multiple atempts at starting it just locked out the vehical for a time period. Were you using a different key then normal? or have 2 keys close to each other?

Either you have a K1 cherokee or a X2 cherokee. Since your in the U.K., i would assume that you have the K1. Bullet has the correct idea, however, having 2 skim keys on the same key ring will not cause the skim module to detect a wrong key even if it's for a different vehicle. The transponder in the key has their own key code that the skim module will recognize if it's the correct one. IF neither one of the keys are programmed to that vehicle then the skim module will immobilize the vehicle. One of the causes for an intermittent transponder malfunction is a speedpass key ring. If you dont have one of this on your key ring then you will need to get the skim module scanned for stored DTC's. Unfortunately, only a dealership can do this due to the PIN code required to access the module thru a Chrysler DRB scantool.
