----Bad advice edited out----

A couple of things to think about:
Did you disconnect your sway bar?
Are you hanging up on your brake lines when you try to droop the axle?

I wouldn't jack the body at all, it should be securely supported by jack stands or other means with the axles completely drooped. Be sure to disconnect the sway bar end links and the track bar. Pull up slightly on the opposite end of the axle while pushing down on the end you're working with, you should have plenty of room. I do them often without spring compressors, even lift springs.

I originally tried the spring compressors, but as I started to crank them down I just got too nervous and quit.

I think that Bounty's got it right though. I forgot that by pulling up one side of the axle, it made the other side drop down.

I've installed coils up to 5.5" of lift without the use of coil compressors. Disconnect enough of the axle and it's a lot easier.

Thanks for all the tips. I went back and took the passenger side off and completed the d-side first. After I did the d-side, I didn't have any troubles getting the passenger side in. I am guessing it was a fluke. all in all it only took me about 4 hours to complete it by my self. again guys, thanks for the advise.

4 hours ain't bad for a first time. Consider adding another set of stock coil isolators (5/8") to the front spacers to level the jeep a little more.

I look up what you are talking about, but couldn't I just add those spring spacers you can get a autoZone? Seems like it would be more cost effective.

Do not use the spacers that fit between the wraps of the coil spring, stick with an OEM style spacer on top.

I may have these.I have a rubber piece wedged between my springs that is in the shape of an H.I have 2 on each spring. Is this a generic lift? They where on my jeep when I got it.I thought they where there just to help stiffen the springs some.I also thought they where put in from the factory.Any info would be great.I have full plans on getting a 2.5" suspension lift in the next few months.

That H thing your talking about is NOT a factory part. Some people use it to keep the coil springs from collapsing too much to keep it from bottoming out, and some use it to gain a little spring lift. Not a very good or practical idea.

When lifting coil sprung front jeep axles I 've found it easiest to: 1- disconnect trck bar. 2- Disconnect LCAs at the non adjustable side. It seems like to much work but It took me halve as long when I did it this way. No need for coil compressers either.

those little rubber spring spacers are asking for trouble. I ran them years back in a mustang and it nearly ruined my springs. puts a lot of unusual stress on the springs
