Jeep just won't start

Evening all.
Well I just finished a major overhall on my '88 Wrangler.
Bought it with a broken BA-10 and never drove it until today I had hoped.

Put everything back together and it won't turn over.
I had the battery tested. It was low but in good shape, so I charged it overnight.

Looking for someone to give me a direction to look.

Here is what I did.

1. Replaced the BA-10 with a AX-15 with matching 231.
2. Replaced Brake Master cylinder.
3. Replaced negative battery lead.
4. New rear Drive Shaft for SYE.

I am a novice at working on vehicles but feel all went smooth.

The motor ran before I started rebuilding everything.

Now the motor does not turn over. The starter does not engage nor clicks.
The key buzzer changes tone when I turn the key to engage the starter only.

Any suggestions from everyone's wealth of knowledge?

Thanks

Thanks Bounty Hunter. Just wondering if I missed a connection or something else with the trans swap that may keep things from working.

Because the buzzer changes tone when the starter circuit is energized, leads me to believe that the solenoid/starter is sucking up some juice or a discharged battery. Turn on the headlights and try starting it. Do the headlights dim down "normally" or do they virtually go out? LBR

If it is a battery issue, should I be able to jump start it?

I stand corrected, I just tried to start the Jeep to check on the headlights.

The buzzer does not change tone and the headlights do NOT dim.

Any other suggestions?

Thanks
Dave

Not real familiar with your 88 wiring of starting system but...1) Does the wire attached to the solenoid from the switch have 12 volts to it when a helper turns the switch to "start?" 2) Is that wire connected to the correct solenoid terminal? 3) Did the solenoid just go bad during your work? 4) Your new ground cable making good connection on both ends? 5) Hooked the starter cable back up from the solenoid? LBR

I pulled the starter today and had it checked. everything worked fine.
I was able to pull start it. although it has Carb problems, it runs!

I am thinking it may be a starter kill issue. I removed a alarm system that had been installed but didn't have any controls. Maybe by removing the alarm, the wiring is messed up.
Anyone familiar with alarm installation that can tell me what wires may have been clipped to install a starter kill?

Happy New Year! Look forward to using the Jeep in the new year!

Dave

Bingo! When you deleted the alarm system with the starter interupt feature would probably be the answer. The box was wired inbetween the solenoid and switch for that part of security. There are probably 2 wires that you cut to remove that system that now need to be reconnected. Have fun Dave........LBR

Well tonight, my neighbor and I tore the dash apart and I found the problem. A previous owner had cut the ignition wire down at the starter relay. We tore out another 50 feet of useless wire and reconnected several clipped wires.
She Fired right up. Now on to figuring out what to do with the Carter Carb...

glad to hear you got the wiring issues fixed, sorry to hear about the carb problems but im not all that surprised. i replaced my carter with a motorcraft 2100 carb that came off of a ford 302. I saw a huge difference in power and fuel economy. between the new carb, computer bypass and scrapping all the emissions system on my YJ, my fuel economy went from 250 to almost 400 kilometers to a tank. needless to say the carb swap paid for itself in no time!!!
