i have a buddy who works for a jeep dealership. one night out on the annual va4wda annual trail run, a jeep stopped running and shat out, brand new 03 rubi on 35s. geuss what he did. he pulled the jet chip and reset the comp, vroom vroom said the rubi. he later told me he sees so many jeeps come in with those in there and stupid problems caused by it. dont waste your money only to create problems. lots of aftermarket engine parts that claim higher gas are worthless really. think about the throttle body spacer, that turbo twister thingy, etc etc. external engine upgrades come from having more flow, more in and more space to shove it out, that means cold air, bored tb's and high flow exhaust.
True....lots of quality problems, especially from the (basically)homemade ones like you find on ebay.
Don't sell them short. A chip can be worth big gains. It takes air, fuel, and spark to make an internal combustion engine do it's thing. You can make it do more by adding more of each(to a degree). The bored TBs, cold air kits, and high flow exhausts provide ONE part of that three part formula. The computer has a hand in the other two. With the off the shelf "Mickey Mouse" parts that are offered and marketed to us power hungry Jeepers, you will probably never really NEED a chip burning with natural aspiration. They are known for allowing aftermarket hard parts to make even larger power increases though.
