If my engine dies.... (knock on wood) what are/is a good engine to put in?
I have a 91 wrangler (I believe). I purchased my jeep a month ago and I don't know how to tell the difference. Anyways, just a thought. It currently runs on a 6 in line. 4.0. Manual. 5 speed.

i would just replace it with another 4.0. They last forever if you have some sort of fluid in them for lubrication, and they make great power and can have decent fuel economy. I would want to stick a 5.3 vortec in one if I got the chance, but that would take a lot of work and money I will never have.

I believe the 4.0 is a great engine too. Plus there are a few high performance parts out there for the 4.0. Never underestimate a 6 cyl

Seems like my engine cries for the next Gear quick. Doesn't let me run far down the road before I need to shift it... I'd say 25 feet... It runs smooth... I would just like some power or "something" when I get on the free way cars pass me like I am old :/ runs 70 mph strong on freeway. No doubt I can make it go faster but no need...

The best bolt on mods are a air raid or that type of air filtration system, and a cat back exhaust.
After that there are super chargers and turbos available.
Without knowing if your lifted and running bigger tires, then gearing your axles....
Your never going to win,any drag races with a jeep, but as long ad your not doing bog racing or mud races, the name of the game here is torque.

Your jeep could have originally had a 4cly in it, they come with 4.10 gears. As said above torque is the name of the game with off roading. A 6cly with 4.10,s could give you the feeling you discribe of quick shifts. That is actually a good thing for wheeling. If you havent done so yet, put your jeep in 4x4 low range and tap the gas and u will feel the power your jeep has!! The gearing in a off road vehicle will not feel like that of any car. The deeper your gearing the sooner you will shift.

8.1L LS big block.. all other is a compromise

Standard is 58mm, the big bores are 62mm opening. 4mm roughly ..1575 inches differences. Just a bit over 5/32. But allow in a lot more air.
