Just put in my throttle body spacer today and....

I am thinking about buying a Bronco.

....noticed absolutely no difference at all. As far as I'm concerned it was a waste of $80. I guess I'll find out if it makes any difference in fuel mileage over time.

Yeah I have been skeptical about putting one of those on... You just made up my mind...

Craig, have you tried coupling it with a K&N filter? Might help some and make you feel better. Also, improved exhaust will help. I noticed a difference with a Dynomax Super Turbo muffler and a K&N stock box filter.

But like Joopin said,
... Thanks for taking one for the team...

I noticed a difference on mine, slight, but noticable with my conical K&N and Flowmaster exhaust, oh, and a 4.0L throttle body.

Sometimes even if a power increase is not felt immediately, the mod may still be worth it as part of an overall power package. Same way I look at an electric fan. When coupled with a hi-flow intake, exhaust, bored throttle body, electric fan, etc. it will be a benefit.

$80 sounds a bit steep for a TB spacer, got mine for $50 from www.truckperformance.com .

There's a couple of HP on the top end to be gained, but the benefits aren't what the guys who manufacture them like to claim they are. As stated several times by several people here, they just don't do the same job with dry flow MPFI throttle bodies as they do in a wet flow system like a TBI or carb. They should be considered a "finishing piece" to an already built engine, because the gains are better used by a better breathing combo than that which came between your fenders from the factory and all they do is cut into the available funds for other mods that give more bang for the buck. Just my $.02.

Already have the K&N filter in there. Mabye like others have said, the spacer coupled with other minor mods will add up to some added power. I'll be putting in headers next but I'm a little worried about doing it. I've known people to add headers and have problems with melting things under their hood. A buddy of mine actually had an engine fire last summer from his headers.
The mod I've noticed the most gain from is adding my snorkel. It acts like a ram air and it's nowhere near the engine so it has a constant flow of cold air. The gain wasn't huge but I don't have to keep my foot down as far on the accelerator to maintain highway speeds.

"Might help some and make you feel better" I guess it mostly just makes you feel better, knowing it is there? I was going to get one, but I'll skip it, thanks for posting this thread. :)

One benifit I did gain from adding the spacer is that since I now have a 3" bodylift on here, the air tube going from the airbox to the intake was streteched (almost too short) and that problem is now cured.....an expensive fix to the problem, but it's fixed.

I did mine now, so it helps with driveline angles and I don't have to worry about it when it comes time to build a flat skid and move the transmission and transfer case up. One less thing to mess with later.

I got mine with my ram intake so I can't speak for it by itself, I didn't notice a huge gain with both but every bit helps the 2.5....gonna do the header, hiflow cat and exhaust in a couple of weeks so maybe then there will be a nice difference

I got 18mpg the other day on a 2.5hr interstate drive, running about 75mph. Remember this is with my 2.5L and stock 4.11 gears, and 32x11.5" tires. Quite an accomplishment I think considering stock gears and big tires. Best I've gotten since stock.

I've corrected my speedo, so this mileage is accurate.

I think I'll be installing my Mopar Performance camshaft next week, should be quite an improvement.

Bounty, that should make a big difference. There's a good amount of power hiding in that little engine, considering.

thats what i though you meant... "ricer" term... they put them on their hondas and think that it will have a ram effect... where really, it has nothing of the sort... it will simply allow more to be pulled in due to a large surface area. a ram air system puts the intake in an open air environment, outside of the hood, facing forward, so that forward movement will force air into the intake

I've always wondered about those open cone filters under the hood. Do they actually help? I'd think that they would get more air in through them than the stock airbox but they would also be sucking in more hot air since they are right in the engine compartment. I'd think that getting less cold air would be better than more hot air or they would at least cancel each other out. Cold air has more oxygen which causes the fuel to burn better and more efficeintly. In my old car (RX7) I noticed a huge difference in power and fuel mileage when driving in cold enviroments vs warm. The car had a lot more power when driving in cold weather. I'm thinking about trying to fab up a sealed enclosure for a cone filter that I can attach to my snorkel.
