Not stupid. Everyone starts somewhere. No fluid in the drive shaft. You may be thinking of taking off the rear pinion yoke. Just use a 1/2" wrench to take off the 4 nuts on both ends holding the drive shaft in place. There is plenty of places online that have instructions on how to do this and replace the u joint. Really not that hard of a job. I would recommend using spicer U joints! Good luck
I dont feel your answer got answered so here goes if your tcase has a cone that the drive shaft goes into and there is a seal on thevend then yes it will leak if you can see the entire shaft and it does not go into anything then it wont and if there is no slip yoke then it wont
TJ slip yokes will not leak like YJ or other older np 231's. Older np 231's use a caged roller barrel style out put berring, TJ use a solid race berring that does not allow for the fluid to pass. it will spit a little if you are driving around simply due to heat buildup and expanding and contracting dis-similar metals, but nothing I would be too concerned with if you drive is under 100 miles.

I know you have to take the four bolts off the back of the pinion on the diff. What I'm saying is once i pull the drive shaft out of the transfercase, will fluid start coming out of the transfer case.I'm pretty sure jps4jeep answered it, I just want to make sure you all understand what I'm asking.

No, the TJ transfer case will NOT leak fluid with the rear driveshaft removed. The TJ transfer case has a seal that fits tightly around the transfer case tailshaft, not around the outside of the slipyoke as on older jeeps.
