Lifts

Ok, To lazy to search the post from months back to see if this was a subject once spoken on, but I wanna know about lifts.

I am looking at buying a 3" BDS Suspension lift for $700, I talked the guy down from $800. So i'm wondering is BDS that good of a lift?
I've looked on the interweb at some different lifts from Rusty's lifts all the way to Fab Tech and I have ran into many 3" Suspension lifts for way less then $700. SO I want some feed back on lift kits. Please!?

I've got a 3.5" BDS on my YJ and love it. From the research I did before getting it, it's one of the top 3 lifts out there. I like their warranty, "If you can break it, we'll replace it for free!"

I have a 3.5" BDS lift front and rear. I broke the front driver side on Yankee Boy Basin above Ouray, Colorado. Had to go to Durango to get the replacements. Warranty couldn't be used at that time (due to the remote location and the dealer was not a BDS dealer). I didn't want to drag the leaf springs home as it happened during the first 2 days of a week long vacation. I was headed to the New Mexico back country.

Last trip to Moab, I discovered the driver side back had a broken leaf spring (lowest one). I am working with High Country 4X4 Performance to get the warranty honored this time. I have to pull the old ones (hopefully soon as I bought the replacements already) and then have the dealer send them (at my cost) to BDS. Once BDS inspects and gives a return credit I'll get compensated.

Originally, I installed the lifts myself. I went with the recommended 4 degree shim. I started to go through u-joints on the drive shafts soon after. I changed that shim out for a 6 degree aluminum shim and that stopped the u-joint troubles. I find that the aluminum shim shifts a lot so when I change them out I'll install a Poison Spider steel shim.

I do like the BDS system. Overall, it gave me 4" of lift on the Mighty YJ.

The 2-step shock absorber system make the first few trail runs interesting. Once they are broken in, they are marvelous.

This was taken on Crystal Mountain near Ft. Collins, Colorado soon after the lift was installed.

That is a sweet flex... So what do you all think 3", 3.5", or just go ahead and get the 4"?

What size tires are you thinking of doing?

What sort of trails do you like to ride?

The reason that I ask? I am running 33" tires. A 3.5" lift will not allow 35" tires on my rig. To do that I'll have to do a 1" body lift. I have a K&N FIPK air ram system on it so I'll have to do a new throttle body spacer, as well.

I won't go to 35" tires until the current tires are worn out. After all, the Mighty YJ is also know as "The Money Pit!"

So, think about now and what you're going to want to do with your rig in the future.

I'm wanting to go up to a 33" tire right now. I guess I can do almost anything that anyone else can do with 33's.

With my BDS 3.5" lift, I run 33" tires.

Seems to go anywhere, do anything...

Of course, when I ran the Golden Crack on the Golden Spike, I did tap here and there! (I also allowed a friend to run it and he did at 30 mph... Not the way I would have done it)
