loud grinding when switching to 4WD

Was about to head out today and through my jeep in 4WD and got this loud grinding sound, almost like if you were grinding gears on a manual. I am not really sure what the deal with it is, never had this problem before. Where do I start?

Change the fluid in the transfer case, see if it improves shifting.

Stick or automatic trans?

Sound as if the trans output is still under power while shifting T-case

If the fluid change does not improve or fix the issue, it could be that your clutch components are worn and not properly disengaging the input shaft on the transmission when the clutch is depressed.

Were you trying to shift into 4lo or 4hi? If 4lo you might have been going too fast. You need to be going at a crawl.

Thanks for all the answers guys, I took it to my builder today to have him check it out, along with some other mods. He had me pull it into the shop so he could hear what was going on. Of course (just like when you go to the doctor) I did not have the problem anymore. I am still not sure what the issue was, he seems to think that it just wasn't ingauging incorrectly. As of right now it is working, I'll keep you guys posted. Thanks again though

John
