Anybody get this email floating around or heard about a boycott on buying gasoline on may 19th (this Wednesday)?

Any thoughts on the following email???I don't buy into the statistics, but I kinda like the economic protest of being raped on a daily basis as I fill my Jeep!!!

Here's a copy:

I don't think it'll work. All that'll happen is a jump in purchasing before and after the protest. I like the message though.

Hey TC - I got that mail and passed it on to all in my address book - fill up on the 18th and let's see if any affect occurs - if not, then set another date... and another.... and another....AA...AA...AA..AA....LBR

That email has been going around for years, they just keep changing the dates. No way it could work. People are going to consume the same amount of gas in a week, whether they all fill up on one day or another. The gas companies won't even know it happened. Now, boycott them for a month, and they might notice enough to jack prices up another $.50........

Remind me to get gas that day cause there won't be a line at the pump!

What really needs to happen is for all the truckers to park the rigs for a week. Do not pick up or make a delivery for one week. Not buy fule or burn fule. Just take a week off with their familys go fishing and relax. Truckers are in charge of the most controlable link to business in America. Everything you eat drink wear or use in your home was at one time or another hauled in a Tractor Trailer. Even your Jeep had a ride on an 18 wheeler at some point.

This would get the Great Republican Machine to thinking about what they are allowing to happen in this country. We have enough gas up there in Alaska under the frozen tundra, Down in the Gulf, and all around this country to keep us running till the cows come home, or at least till the alternative fule rides are ready to go.

Fule goes up then it cost more to move the freight, this in turn go up at the cash register for you and me when ever you buy anything. This is called Inflation. Anyone old enough to remember the years of inflation and shortages. It is a republican thing in case you don't remember you will see it first hand very soon! So get ready. If you do not study history you will be forced to relive it.

Yea I know I will get flamed by all the right winged brain washed followers of GW Bush! That is ok I guess I can live with it I always do. But before you take me to the matts and make it a personal groupe beating of this simple man who speakes his mind form time to time study your history and see what the past says about where we are now and what it will take to get us out of this mess.

We have good men & women getting shot up every day for Weapons of mass destruction that do not exist! For a bad ruler that we already caught, and for a man who wants to aveng his fathers short comings and who has seriously fallen from grace in the eyes of the country and the world for that matter.

Well I am sure I have ticked off many of you enough with this but in all honesty I don't really care if I did. Heck it is good to be mad, I get that way all to often these days with the world in such a crapper.

Maybe it will work maybe it will not work but if we the people do not start to at least try to send a message to Washington from time to time how tell me how are we ever going to let em know what we feel is wrong, So take a chance and see if it will make a difference not going to the pumps for a day. If that does not work make it two days or a week or what ever it takes to get the ball rolling in the right direction.

If we could set the differences of politics and of race, sex, religion, personal beliefs aside for just a few days and say "We are mad as hell and we aint going to take it any more" We the people could take the goverment by the balls and make them start to represent us the people again. Washingtons would quake right down to the corner stones and look out of the windows to see the people for the first time in a very long time. tug

If you really want the prices to go down start writing to every public official you can and tell them that if the oil industry thinks they can slow production just to run up prices than it is time to regulate the prices. I saw on the new the other day that they are already seeing changes in what people are buying and how they are spending money.

New radiator or fan to help cooling?

A one day boycott of something that most people buy once or twice a week :? Ummmmm, okay. So if I buy gas Monday instead of Tuesday, I'm sending WHAT message?

What really needs to happen is for all the truckers to park the rigs for a week. Do not pick up or make a delivery for one week. Not buy fule or burn fule. Just take a week off with their familys go fishing and relax.
Well you would probably just about put us out of business, along with countless other small companies. Is it okay for somebody to take a vacation everytime they get their panties in a wad? Yes, it is. This is America, you can do whatever you want.....you'll get fired but you can leave anytime you want. And that's what should happen to any trucker that refuses to deliver his load or abandons his job, union or not. Refuse to give any more to jobs to any independent that would do that too.

Good point. Now, how do we go about getting you foreign oil hating libs to let us go get it?

But before you take me to the matts and make it a personal groupe beating of this simple man who speakes his mind form time to time study your history and see what the past says about where we are now and what it will take to get us out of this mess.
You mean another Ronald Reagan? Yeah, that's what I think too....let's just hope another Clinton doesn't come in behind him and screw it all up again
Wasn't the Dems answer to this in the 70s that idiot Carter? That's interesting because the best description of Kerry is a "modern day Carter". His policies are as half-witted and his chances of successfully running a country are about the same......ZERO.

I'm not Bush's biggest fan. I don't even belong to the same political party anymore, but if you people think his opponent has ANY idea how to fix ANY problem......your just not seeing reality.

That's the part where I tried to convey that I knew it wouln't cripple the oil industry or anything, but I'd like to send the message that I'm pissed off. A simple economic protest, just to say "bite me" to opec!

Tug, I'm not gonna flame ya, because you're just as passionate about this stuff as I am, maybe more. As many of the views you've expressed in the past are in agreement with mine, some of our views differ. When they differ, there's no need for a flame in my book. I disagree with alot of what you wrote, but I'm trying to limit my political debates here at Jeepz, so I will merely add this thought:

I believe it is the Democrats that are preventing the drilling of oil here in the US. The environmentalist nuts have fought that tooth and nail.

The problem is that opec knows that raising prices pisses people off, and they really could care less. We're all junkies, addicted to that sweet sweet thick black ooze. When you're a junkie you have no bargaining power, the dealer holds all the cards.

Only thing that would make an impact is for everybody to not drive for one day.

Otherwise you're using the same amount of gas, either filling up the day before or the day after.

Same email, different summer.

First of all I read today that they found chemical weapons in Irag, so that argument is shot all to hell. And even if that was just an excuse to get in there and woop up, I still think we should be there. After seeing an American beheaded on TV by some skinny little arab SOB's, I couldn't agree more with our boys being there. These guys need to be stopped, and they aren't just gonna sit in one place and let us come find em. As hated as Bush might be by the media and SOME (not nearly all) of the US, I think we needed a man with balls to get some business done around the world. Feel free to disagree with me, but that's how I feel.

Oh, and back to the topic (sorry) I read a similar e-mail about not buying gas from Mobil or Exxon for as long as it takes for prices to go down. They are the 2 biggest players in the gas business and if they drop their prices so will the smaller guys. I don't know if any of this will work but it's definitely worth a try.

exhaust cut out on a YJ

Democrats.. again with blaming the Democrats. Why'd I get fired? Democrats. Why did my dog die? Democrats. Why did I stub my big toe? Democrats.

Why are we in Iraq? Democrats??? Well, maybe not that one. 'Pubs stand to gain more from all of this then the Dem's.

All parties bow down to the lobbyist with the fattest wallet. Oil typically gives a lot of contributions to the Republicans, but neither party is innocent.

No politics anymore TC!! You know where this'll go.

There are alternative and more environmentally friendly ways of powering a vehicle that exist today and have exsited for some time. But instead of really trying to help better develope the technologies and implement them on a large scale, the auto industry seems to continue to be content supporting the oil companies. What a shame. :(

Well I'm not getting gas today. Why the hell not, it won't hurt me any and it's something to talk about.

HELP!! Jeep CJ7 Dash knobs....

I have seen this in every forum I go to, heck, Boycott, cause thats the day I am gonna get gas cause there will be no lines!!

I'm not directing this at anybody in particular, I've just been reading and hearing alot of stuff in alot of places about how the auto manufacturers should be required to somehow solve this problem. With todays technology vehicles should be half as expensive, twice as efficient, twice as durable and safe, twice as fast, and weigh half as much as those from decades ago. Hardly. Dim-witted consumer demands and ridiculous government requirements have crippled any REAL advancements. The majority of those government requirements have come about because of the never silent voices of those that are now screaming for alternative fuels. It doesn't help that the Bush family is so twisted up in the oil industry, of course it is going to be a "mark".
It's kind of hard to expect the horrible auto manufacturers to invest alot of THEIR time and money into finding a way to go to alternative fuels in a practical manner, when dolts like Kerry are keeping them busy and scared by voting on stupid legislation like requiring all light trucks to get something like 34mpg before 2005. I don't remember the exact numbers, but the Dems candidate voted on a bill very similar to that.
What do you want them to do? They are in business to make money, why is it their responsibility to put up the effort? If it is worthwhile, someone will do it. CUT OFF THE OIL and they will HAVE to do it, but thats the only way. That is....unless the Dems have switched from socialism to communism, and they now want the government to take over those corporations and FORCE them to make little electric bumper cars. What then? Start bitching about too many power plants? Why don't we just require the auto industry to figure out that whole perpetual motion thing while they're at it?
