i have an 89 yj, so there is going to be some rust, but in the engine, there is a hose comming off the bottom of the filter box that looks like it is supposed to go into my engine, but it is rusted off, i'm wondering what the hell that hose is for and what piece is it that rusted off, i think it's my exaust manifold, but that is just wingin it, i really have no idea :?

my engine can't be running at full if some intake hose or something isn't attached

help.

please...

anybody correct me please but i know on GM the EGR has a direct feed by a flexi pipe on the exhaust header is subject to rust up or breakage

Sounds like the flextube that pulls heat from the exhaust manifold. If so, don't worry about it.

it's a 4cyl, if i leave that hose loose it's just going to suck in water, isn't it?...i wanted to make my own snorkle and i've been looking at alot of posts for it...how much would it cost to replace that piece on my engine or what can i do to fix my problem.

other than the hose being messed up, the part on the engine is rusted off, like the piece was still in the hose and it just broke flush...i want to replace that part on my engine

Did you read the above? It's a mysterious hose that feeds warm air back into the intake. It is for helping the engine warm up on a cold day. Unless you have problems warming the engine then don't worry about it.
The broken piece on the exhaust manifold is part of a useless heat shield that channels the warm air up into the flex tube (the heat shield is not water tight anyway). There is also a little hose that operates a vacuum solenoid that opens a little flap where the flex tube used to go. Remove that hose and it will never open again. Sealed up, end of story. Carry on with your snorkle.

alright i looked tonite and it seems there are 2 little hoses...i removed the one connected inside the box, so that flap won't open do i remove the other small hose on the outside of the box? or is that what keeps pressure...

I did well to remember the other hose from memory. I think you would benefit from purchasing a Chilton's Manual. Lot's of good info.

ok , its the heat exchanger and the heat sheil your talking bout replaceing isnt worth replaceing. you might have to buy a whole new exhaust manifold . i havent seen any one who sells just the wrap around heat sheil you want. try a dealer and see what they sell. or do the smart thing pul off the rest of the hose and plug the bottom of the aircleaner. just my thoughts

Basically just make sure you have air getting into the engine, and exhaust getting out. Any other hoses or pipes between the exhaust and intake are not needed
