31" is the usual max size.

If you have a YJ your in luck. The leaf spring lift kits are the cheapest. My RANCHO 3.5" kit cost me $336.00 some years ago. I think they're still there about.

If you have a TJ....OUCH! The cheapest lift kit I have seen for a TJ is a 2" kit for $550
But most kits go for $850 - $1050

They really rape you for front coil spring suspensions.

Most 4's have 4.10 gears. No need to change them out unless you go to 35's. But you still could use the 4.10 even then. A stock Jeep can get 31's under it but you will have no flex. A "good" lift is about $950. It all depends on what you want to do w/ the Jeep. If you just want to improve the apperance then go w/ a cheap lift. The ride will be real stiff though. I feel Rubican Express makes the best lift for CJ's and YJ's. I have a YJ myself.
