Motor swap 4.2 to 4.0 conversion

Here's the deal, I am sick and tired of my 258. It's slow, gutless, and old. I am thinking about a motor swap rather than a rebuild. I was thinking about a stroker but I am going to pass for now. I want to possibly swap my 4.2 carter carbed POS for a fuel injected 4.0 out of a newer TJ or cherokee. My transmission was just rebuilt so I want to run that with the new 4.0, the transmission is a T-5. My questions are; will the 4.0 bolt up to my T-5 and what other parts will I need to make this conversion work? Any input would be much appreciated.. Thanks

NO..........Need to get a different transmission. Get the transmission-T/C-all the wiring harness from a YJ w/ ecu.. The XJ is too hard to make work. We're almost done with another one in a 88. I did mine about 8yrs ago but had a buddy to the wiring. (Get the best one you can afford with everything)

Wait so I wont be able to use my dana 300 tcase? CJ's a passenger side diff drop and YJ's/TJ's are driver side. If I get a YJ tcase I will have to get a new front axle with driver drop. Will my dana 300 bolt up to the ax5 or ax15 whatever the 5spd in the YJ is?

It should. Run the T5 and D300, everything else should bolt in as well.

My bad, thought the t-5 was ax-5 in the 4 banger. The t-5 was bolted to a 6 right? So the 4.0 has the same pattern.
