motor??

i think i kno this anawer already but i want to make sure.. a friend of my pulled a freshly rebuilt motor and transmission out of his 1981 jeep wrangler and put a v8 in it. he is willing to sell me the motor and transmission for 500$ or less. the motor in my 1989 xj is need of a rebuild.. will his '81 work in my jeep? they are both striaght 6's

im pretty sure the answer is no, but i wanted to double check.

Anything is possible but I wouldn't advise it. His motor has a carb and yours is efi so your computer would go crazy.

It's been done many times. Massaging the intake to fit the 4.2L head is the hard part. Don't use his trans and do use the 4.0L flexplate. Swap the front goodies from the 4.0L (timing cover and cam bolt too) and it'll be fine.
