My Brakes/Suspension paper

School help, again! :D

I need to write a paper on Brakes/Suspension can be anything, and being the offroad freak that I am I figure I am going to write about air bags...well I can't find any info, and I need sources.

So......what would you write about? It can be anything that deals with brakes, suspesion or stearing.

Ok, lame topic, but c'mon help a sista out.

You do mean the airbags for suspension, right (kind of like hydrolics)? Here's a link that talks about how it works (pretty simple): http://www.hotrod.com/techarticles/55878/

Do you want to relate it to off-roading, or just suspension/brakes/steering in general

I'll look for some better links!!

LB,

I don't know what angle you are looking at here, but if you would be interested in something more than just a tech article you might consider one of the auto manufacturer's worst failures in brake design.
My 1990 XJ and many other 89-91's (don't nail me on the exact cut off dates) came equipped with the Bendix 9 or 10 series ABS.

ABS was meant to enhance normal brake systems to prevent lock up during heavy braking and thus maintain contol. Todays ABS work only when called for and can actually not function and the only result will be normal power assisted braking. The Elmer Fudds of the world who designed the Bendix 9 & 10 made the ABS and regular brake interdependent on one another. When the ABS pump or cylinder fail on one of these the result is an almost impossible to stop vehicle.

This resulted in a major recall and extended warranty on these systems.
They will be repaired by the dealer at no cost, as long as the vehicle is in service regardless of milage or year make or how many owners it has had.

Read up on this blunder if you care to. I think it would make a good read if researched and written.

These article should get you started. you could also talk to your local Jeep dealer Service manager about how many he has had to repair.

or how about suspension flexing and how it relates to improved traction off-road??

Yeah Laura, stick to what interests you. It will make for a better paper.

Different types of suspensions (leaf, coil), you could get into what people do to them to make them perform better.

Might work?

Leaf vs. coil suspension is a WICKED good idea. As is the ABS blunder.

It has to be about brakes/suspension/stearing, but I want to relate it too offroading.

Thanks so much. :D

I don't know if you are still looking for a topic, but you could also do something comparing a solid front axel to a independant front suspension in off road applications, as that seems to be a hot topic considering that most/all of the jeeps in the future are going to be made with independant front suspensions.

bchcky, you're jeep looks hot  finally something to back up the motor..hehe
