i have finaly given up on my heep... im tired of f@w*ing with the transmission... ive had in out twice.... i guess im just rambling... i think im goin to sell it and get a cj7 w/ a hardtop if anyone has one for sale... if anyone is interested in mine it is in great shape but wont shift while moving but shifts fine while sitting and drives good just wont shift....

why not just buy a new transmission? it would be less than buying a different jeep right? Just my thoughts.

But if you get a new transmission and get it fixed then you will luv it more.

You know as well as we do.... you're just trading in one set of problems for another set.

Don't give up! Do the math and you will see that wit hall the money invested, plus whatever you will have to spend on the next CJ-7...you could buy 2 new trannies and a 6 pack.

Dont give up the ship!
Ive had my jeep down for a while too,and I know what it's like.
I always hate my jeep when it needs a major fix.Dont give her up just yet, I say find another transmission and pop that sucker in there. You will be re-bitten by the jeep bug once she is back up and running!

help with suspension

Hi-de-ho Far Right - Don't jump ship OR start drinking quite yet - let me have a stab at it - your info was limited but maybe your looking too far to the rear - the transmission puts a smile on your face setting in the driveway but a frown appears when on the road in travel mode? I'm not familiar with your 82, but could it be the clutch is taunting you? I'm relying upon my knowledge of drag racing, muscle cars and pro-streeting mind you, but if a pressure plate, such as a Long(Ford) or Borg-n-Beck(Mopar) style breaks a spring(what happens is 1 of the 3 fingers that contact the through-out bearing gets out of the same plane as the other 2), then when you press on the pedal, only 2 fingers are actuating properly and the disc does not release cleanly, if it will release at all. Chevy diaphram pressure plates have their own unique idiocyncrecies that would fill a book as well. Troubleshoot to verify that the clutch disc is releasing completely, 101%, between gear changes. If it doesn't, then a minor ill effect is hard shifting; the major ill effect is no shifting (sounds familiar?) When your rapped up in 1st gear and shifting into 2nd, the transmission internals need to slow down to the revolving speed that the 2nd gear syncro demands for a clean shift. If the speed slows down too far too fast (a SLIGHTLY dragging clutch disc), then kiss your shift goodby. This MAY be your problem. This MAY NOT be your problem. Your description was a bit meek on details, but since nobody else threw this out to ya, I thought I would. LBR

I've had a 5 and now a 7. I do enjoy the increased room, better ride and hardtop. But it rains a lot in my town. Too bad you didn't live here, CJ5's are hard to come by. If yours has a decent frame and body you would probably get good money.

I've got a friend in Birmingham that has an 80 something model CJ7 with a 6 cyl, T176, Dana 300. He just had a full cage put in it aand custom bumpers. It's the lighter brown color. New Bestop. I didn't look too hard at it but it appeared solid with no dents or anything like that. I think it has Wild Countrys on it. He said he would take $3600 for it (not bad since the cage and bumpers were at least $1000).
Mail me back if you want the number.
