New Jeep Magazine

So whatever happened to that new Jeep magazine that some of you got; I got busy with life and wasn't around to hear if it ever got up on its feet and running on a regular basis.

Ya know, I was just thinking about that the other day....haven't heard from Lisa and crew in forever........

You talking about Xtreme Offroad Magazine??? They put out two issues and went bust. Was a great magazine though.

Nah, I think it was call "Jrations"..............never got the mag, but did get their CD. Wonder how things are going with them?

I got the first issue and the CD
and they got my money.

thats it.

Sorry, fellas. I fell out of orbit for a while as we were working on Standard Issue 2 and evaluating feedback and such.

Yes! J Rations is still around. Standard Issue 2 has been published with a mag and CD, and Standard Issue 3 (w/o a CD) is right on its heels. We've also decided to take the magazine to a bimonthly frequency (every other month) starting with SI3. This will begin in early October.

Other news is that we're putting the magazine on the racks in better bookstores across the U.S., starting with SI3, and subscriptions (to the magazine only) are now available.

Sorry about my long absence. We're a very small group of people doing the work of many, so I don't have much free time. This is a great bunch of people here on the Jeepz site. Missed ya!

Jrations had a booth at the PA Jeeps All Breeds Jeep Show in York, PA. The guys that were there were good folks, I chatted with them a while until my son dragged me away. There was waaay too much cool stuff around for me to expect him to hang out and talk ;)

Well, good to hear from you, Lisa! I thought maybe you'd forsaken us for another message board. We know we're your favorite! Glad to hear the mag is going on the shelves soon, too. And the bi-monthly thing is also good news. I just hope you can keep it simple for those of us who don't have the money for building $50,000 rock crawlers and trail rigs, but still throw in just enough of that type of writing to give us something to dream about.

Hi Sparky,

I try to keep up with several Jeep forums, but it's pretty time-consuming, so I don't get to everyone as often as I'd like. But, no! I haven't forsaken the Jeepz boards. You guys are too fun to forget.

SI3 is going to the printer this week. We'll be adding a newsstand locator to our home page when we have the list of bookstores where J Rations will be available.

Not to worry about us focusing on the big-buck buildups. We're like the majority of Jeep enthusiasts—our dreams are bigger than our bank accounts! We'll include some drool material from time to time, but J Rations is about stuff that's affordable or DIY.

That's good. But also bear in mind that many of us don't have access to welders, pipe benders, cutting torches, or even air tools. I've seen other write ups that are "DIY" for the poor guy that require Mig and Tig welders, plasma cutters, pipe benders, etc., etc., etc. Keep it simple, sis!;)

did any of you get the Standard Issue #2?

I thought when we subscribed we would get more than just the first issue.
Did I misunderstand?
I just read that SI#3 was going to print soon.

90Xjay, we didn't start offering subscriptions until March of this year, so if you bought anything before then, it was a single-copy order.

If you PM me with your real name, I can check to see if you're on the subscriber list. But since you haven't gotten SI2, I'm betting you bought a single copy, not a subscription.

excluding pipe benders, many who get into modding any type of vehicle either have access to or end up buying many of these tools. Since getting into Jeeps I have air tools, a gas torch for cutting, and plan on buying a welder soon (I wantedto get one for a long time now).

Barring the simple bolt on suspensions and accessories, there's a huge need for these types of tools. They are what enable building and doing mods yourself.

Sparky, let me explain a little deeper the challenges we face at J Rations.

We have a vehicle that spans more than 60 years. We've got the military jeeps and the civvy Jeeps. We have all the early civvies, the various Wranglers, the full-size Jeeps, the XJs, the ZJs, the Liberty, the Commander and now the Compass. That's the vehicle side of things.

Then we have people new to the sport, with stock Jeeps and very little knowledge on how to even approach a trail run. On the opposite end, we have the extreme runners who live for the Rubicon et al. and Jeeps that are so built up they hardly look like Jeeps anymore.

When it comes to tech, the picture runs the gamut from those who don't even know how to change the oil to enthusiasts whose Jeeps hardly have any OE parts left on them.

Then, there's the East Coast vs. West Coast terrain and land access issues. Is it rocks and sand, or mud and woods? Well, everything!

Our job is to try to speak to everyone, and it can be a tricky balancing act. You can expect to see a wide variety of tech in J Rations, but the focus will be on easier, more affordable work. Oh, we'll throw a dream job in every so often, but it will be the exception rather than the rule.

Like Lincoln said, You can please all of the people some of the time and some of the people all of the time, but you can't please all of the people all of the time. (I paraphrased because we aren't in the business to "fool" anyone ever!)

Yeah, I have slept since then, so I don't remember the whole deal, just that I loved SI#1. I guess I just forgot to reorder?

I'll get that done, cause I'm sure not renewing with JP Mag the porno king.:x

90Xjay,

If you go to our site (www.jrations.com, in case you lost that in your nap ), you'll see that you can order SI2 magazine and CD or just the mag or the CD. You can also order a subscription to the magazine only. The CD is going on hiatus for a while as we settle into our new bimonthly schedule.

Darn, don't know why but I was hoping the site used paypal also :( this poor college student has enough debit don't have/need credit card.

Just ordered my year subscription last night, since I doubt Lisa will give it to me for free.
