Ok Rear Track Bar Off.

I pulled the rear track bar off today. Other than more freedom of movement on the rear axel I see no real down side. Wheel travel is improved. Not gone off road yet but morning is coming or then again tonight is here so maybe later on when my son gets home. There may be a small amount of rear end looseness in a hard curve that was not there before, but nothing to get all wiggy about. I wish I had done this long ago. Words of wisdom from some folk here will say "told you so" So prior to this I will just say thanks to you guys for good advice again. Tug :-D [addsig]

Hey,
I have a tj, and I was wondering how important the rear track bar is on my jeep. Could I do without. I ask because the rear track bar now has alot of slop in the bushings but I don't think it drives all that bad. :) [addsig]

Pull it, drive it, Decide for yourself, If you like it drive it, if you do not like it add new bushings and replace it. I can say mine is history! Tug[addsig]

I think you are right, but before I pull it off I think I will see if I can find a replacement first (just in case I need it)[addsig]

DO NOT DRIVE A TJ WITHOUT TRACK BARS. They are an integral part of the 5-link coil suspension and can not be removed and operated safely.

It is a good mod for YJ's, and we're keeping it :p [addsig]

DO NOT REMOVE THE TRACKBAR ON YOUR TJ!!!

BAD BAD BAD THING WILL HAPPEN!!!

YJ, GOOD MOD!!! :-D

TJ, BAD MOD (INSTANT DEATH)!!! :-O

On a side note... I noticed this past weekend the bolt holding my front trackbar had worked loos and was gone... Therefore, I have been driving without a front trackbar for God knows how long... YJ's RULE!!![addsig]

So did you remove it, or reconnect it? If you reconnected it can you tell a big difference. Sence it was loose and you did not notice it it mest have been no such a big deal anyway.
Bounty Hunter do you have a front track bar on? I think I read you did not. Thanks Tug[addsig]

I do run with a front track bar, just no sway bar or rear track bar. I've never tried it without the front, but may when I do my SOA. After all, CJ's never came with track bars. I've heard of some Jeepers running with no front track bar and keeping the sway bar connected on road.

I keep the front track bar on because the axle will not track straight behind the shackles, the shackles introduce side-to-side movement to the axle. The steering puts additional side-to-side forces on the axle that are restricted by the track bar. I have a front Lincoln Locker which steers hard offroad, and would be really tough on the front end without a trackbar.

Running no track bar works well on the back because the axle tracks straight behind solid spring hangers, and there is no steering to input side-to-side movement.[addsig]
