Part-time light

90 XJ. Part-time light won't go out. Very annoying. Help.

I'm guessing you have a 231 t-case it the light works off the vacuum just like the front disco axle. The switch for it is on the passenger side firewall. Just follow the lines. Sounds like it's stuck or gone bad.

It sounds like a 242 t case ,on mine the t case handle was hitting the shift bezel when going back to 2 wheel drive,not letting it drop out of part time . Do not drive on hard pavement until you know its out of part-time.

It wont hurt it to drive it on pavement in part time or full. .just wears tires faster. .

Now driving g it 70 mph in part or four wheels on super dry patent could possibly cause damage to t case but more than likely under normal conditions it would be fine just be cautios you never know

Full time is fine but part time is bad on pavement and can mess up a t-case.

The 242 transfer case is really different than your standard t-case that everyone grew up with (part-time) refers to the times you use it not the function of it . Think of part-time as a dif locker ,that locks front and rear difs together ,add hard non giving surfaces ,like pavement and before long the weakest link will let go.
