Poll: To Carb or Not! That is the Question!

Ok many of you know what I am doing but for those of you who do not.... here goes..

I have a 1995 YJ that I pulled the 4 banger and auto out of.
I threw in a 2002 TJ with a stick and am down to literally 30 wires left (maybe) before it is ready to start up.

The frustrating part is these 30 wires are a pain in my rear and have been for going on 2 months! I have guides, maps, illustrations, manuals, and the Internet all of which have different ideas as to what these wires are. So I have been tracing them... one at a time  ...I worked on it for 4 hours today and traced 5 wires.

Another Jeep buddy who has a CJ with a 6 in it said...."Throw a carb on that bad boy and we can go jeepin this weekend together."

So my question is this...
Do I stick with the EFI this 2002 TJ engine has or Scrap it for a carb?

Give me some explanation as to why you picked the one you did.

Thanks,

KLETUS

Stick with the MPFI, it makes plenty of power and is very reliable, even at steep angles.

No doubt, stick with what nightmare you have created. You will be MUUUCHO-HAPPIER!!!!

Why bother tossing a Carb on someing like a 4.0??
That would defeat almost the entire reason you swapped that thing in there for in the first place. Your friend is just getting antsy and wants to go Jeepin.

Hang in there you're almost there!!!

Ya Bro stick with the EFI besides your almost there only 30 wires left out ya probably started out with a hell of alot more than that take your time finish right and you antsy jeepin buddie will be jelouse :D

explorer rear in YJ

Don't go half way! Many of us stock carb guys pay big bucks (not me) to put FI on our engines, so take advantage of having it at your disposal. You will be glad you did once you get it all done. When you cut corners you always end up regretting it later. Good luck!

All I have to say is Carbs suck. I have never had a carberated vehicle that didn't need constant attention.

hey stick with injection, you dont have to worry about steep angles and your jeep stalling, and that computer stuff is great, its just a pain in the A$$ to figure out, but if you scrap the engine let me know ill take it off your hands...

Definately stick with the Fuel Injection. I believe there are good reasons why Carburators were ditched for Fuel Injection.

Besides, the electrical isn't all that hard to figure out if you have some basic electrical knowledge and a GOOD set of schematics (I'm NOT talking Haynes stuff here). And if you get stuck in a bind, there are always people here to help you through your electrical frustrations

Well fellas...I think I am just going to bear it out. I have been without my Jeep for almost 2 months now and I was just getting a little ancy I guess. Sorta need a Jeep fix

Hi my name is Kletus and I am a Jeepaholic....I have sold cars that I own that are brand new, motorcycles that do 11.5 in the 1/4, and my most recent victim my Yamaha 4 wheeler all for my :?: my :?: JEEP. Yes I know it is sad but I needed the money for parts that I needed.....and wanted for my Jeep. Thanks

Well fellas I go back to the trace game....wire by wire...

Those must have been POS rigs or your Jeep is going to be sweet!!!!!!
Somebody should be doing that work for ya.
J/K Just teasing ya!!!!!

The Jeep can do that sort of thing to ya. My bike hasn't been out on a real ride for two months now. Normally a 11K a mile a year guy. This year............maybe 3-4K?? Oh well Jeeps rock!!

I sold my '02 dodge commuter and bought my Jeep. Most people think I'm nuts getting a Jeep and using it to commute to DC, but they just don't get it!

There was a time just a couple of weeks ago that I hated a carborator. I only wanted rid of it, not just the carb but the hole Jeep. Now with a carb that does work and does work really well I have second thoughts. Tonight I took Jake my youngest to the ez Bailey Hollow Trail for a 10 min. ride. I am here to say I love the way my Jeep is running. Never a bit of trouble on very steep angles. I had Jake scared a couple of times that we were going to flip over end for end. Was on a 15 foot bank rather steep that I had no intentions of climbimbing all the way but just wanted to set her up there to see if she would die. She did not both head up the hill and the back up the hill she idled right on and on. She will get down low in RPM's with a hard pull and keep right on ticking. I may be starting to really like this ol Cj. tug

Good ol' tug out jeepin ...while I was tracking wires today...

I got A TON done today boys....

Things are starting to look up hill... I got the engine to crank on the key and everything else to work on the key EXCEPT that damn fuel pump. Now mind you I can make the fuel pump work (ground that bad boy out and give her a little bit of this red wire i got) but I would rather her work byherself and not have to jimmy rig something that crutial. Just thought you might like to know that my 30 or so wires has dropped to about a dozen today.. I got a TON DONE!

Still wireing away

KLETUS

Stay after it boy it is worth it. You may get to ride a day or two till something else breaks hehehehe tug
