Power Steering Gear Leak

We took a trip up to Baudette MN this last weekend, and I heard some noise coming from the PS pump as we got close (it's about a 4-4.5 hour drive). The power steering fluid was completely gone, and it looked like it had sprayed out of the ps gear area. I put in some ps stop leak and it still went out within a hundred miles.

Does anyone have a pic of the ps gear (installed, not a part pic please) so I could point out where I think it's leaking? It's on the very bottom on the gear, and it looks like there's a seal. The weird thing is that it didn't leak at all before, and then just suddenly it all dropped out. I know it isn't the pump or either of the hoses. I'm thinking I could order a seal kit and go that way, but am unsure and wouldn't know where to start with that.

hmm i'm confused, maybe it isn't the gear then. I linked to a pic that shows the part i think is leaking...i know it isn't the right one, but it's the same part. It's at the bottom of the shaft shown that goes down in the pic. I'll take a picture with my camera of it later today if I can and post it up :)

Oh okay, it's the pinion shaft seal.. you might find that seal at a Dealer or a local parts store. When i rebuilt mine, i had to buy the whole kit..

SH, your first pic looks like a late-model gear box, not the older Saginaw like his '99 would have. I think they changed in '03 or so.

I would change steering boxes before I rebuilt one, a lot easier. Consider one from a '99 Dodge Durango if you have oversized tires.

I figured I'd wait until I washed the Jeep before trying to figure out where it was leaking from (fluid all over the place) and put some stop leak in for the time being. I'd tried the stuff before in my old car and it worked great, but I didn't expect much of anything this time considering the amount leaking.

...Tada! No more leaking :) I'll post the name of the stuff here later...bought it from Fleet Farm.
