Question about California Tops

Also look into Rock Gear tops. Same idea, only I have heard alot of praise about them. Think the website is rockgearinc.com

I purchased there full frameless top and upper doors. At the time I was trying to make up my mind between this top and a bestop. I have a hard top, so I was really looking for a 3 season top. Hence the attraction to the rockgear top. I gave them a call and asked a few questions, very helpful. Finally they said buy one see if you like it, if not send it back. Naturally I did. :)

I will say the construction of everything seems good. I ran this top the whole summer. The main problem I had was stretching to get it to fit propery, and I do mean stretching (and yes the straps where loose)! I intalled on a Sat, I ripped a small seam in the rear trying to get everything in place. I tried to email and call that Monday and subsequent days after. Eventaully the phone # was disconnected and the email bounced (i never did reach anyone). I fianlly go the top to fit, I would leave the jeep in the sun all day, and when I got home from work I would stretch it some (very slow process). This process lasted over a week. It is a great idea, but it is a hassle to go from a safari top to full top and in KS this can be frequent. So my main beef is fit and ease of use, fit still isn't all that great. I guess you could also say the customer service was lacking as well.:) I think they tried to do to much with it (i.e. a top for everything), good idea just don't try to be a complete weather proof top.

I actually found the whole ordeal very funny, giving me the whole line and selling me a top, knowing they won't be there in a couple of days. It still makes me laugh.

The good news is so far I haven't paid a dime, the cc is still dealing with it. There you have it the whole deal, more than you ever wanted to know.
