removing rear track bar help

Hey Gang,
After having my lift sit on the garage floor all summer, and then some, I began the task of putting it on last night. The entire rear is completely unbolted and ready to drop except I can't get the bolt out of the rear track bar at the axle. The nut came right off but the bolt won't come out. I have beat it silly with a 3lb hammer. What else can i do?

Re: RE: Re: I

torch the bracket right off... once you take off the track bar you will never put it back on.

Bigtime ouch

do what joop said... or get a cutting wheel...

if you can get the right socket, you can get on the bolt with an impact and MAYBE get it free from the bushing... otherwise... you can torch the bushing to melt it.. then it will come right out

I do em all the time. the easiest way i've found is burn out the bolt with a torch. if you dont have one then use an angle grinder with a cutoff wheel and cut the bolt on both sides between the track bar and the mount.

Keep the track bar if you're running a TJ, but you can lose the rear track bar on a YJ with no adverse affects. Try grinding the head off and pounding it out.

lots of times you can't pound it out... i couldn't do it to save my life... i've had to melt MANY bushings in my day to remove suspension bolts

RE: Re: RE: "Status", post counts, and problems th

Thanks for the responses, It is a YJ so I'm going to just cut it off and be done with it. While I was under there I found my fuel tank was leaking a bit. I have to drop that first then continue on. I also decided to add extended brake lines and a new parking brake cable. My wife is a bit PO'd at all the money I been sinking into this thing. Wait to I explain new tires and gears

RE: Re: RE: Jeep Hurricane WOW! 2 Hemi

There was a recall for leaking gaskets of the sending units in YJs. Call the dealer first with your VIN. Of course, when I brought mine in it was a loose hose at the connection so I had to pay  .
You only need to drop it low enough to get a mirror and light in.

Ritt,
Thanks for the info. I can't find the leak right now I ran the tank almost dry and dropped it. There so so much of a mess up there I just cleaned it up and will look again. One of the straps broke and I'm hunting that down now. Is there a time frame for recalls?

Once a recall is posted it's good forever on that VIN.

If you have a broken strap maybe a hose came loose.

Good luck,

RE: gauges quit working?

then he comes inside covered in black soot... "welp.. i got that trackbar off"

RE: another fuel tank question

"Yes, honey, I know you did....the neighbor's just called and asked if you could come dislodge it from their kitchen wall."
