What repair manual would everyone recoomend for a '96 XJ? I want to do some upgrading of my radiator and such and could use a lot of help. I want to upgrade some things., but somethings i want to be able to repair. I am interested in swapping from a belt drive fan to a dual electric fan from a Taurus or Focus.

Re: Repair manual????????

I have always praised Chilton's through the years, but I have noticed that the last 2 I have bought were not as in depth.

I have a Haynes for XJ's. I like it.

I also have the Jeep Owner's Bible, also a good resource, but not model specific. It's more of a general how-to guide.

I'd go with Haynes, but I never heard of the last one.

Re: Repair manual????????

FSM, Factory Service Manual. Generally around $80, worth every penny. Found mine used for $25.

Everything else is to vague.

Re: Repair manual????????

I agree. The chiltons and Haynes give you a lot of valuable info, but a good chunk of the time it just tells you to "Remove #>#". Not too helpful in the intricate things, but overall not a bad thing to have around.

Re: Repair manual????????

I agree with Bounty............wasn't on the list, so I didn't vote.

Re: Repair manual????????

If I were not going to shell out the dough for the FSM, then it would be Haynes.

Re: Repair manual????????

Was trying to give a link, but it did not work right.

Sorry Crewdude007, Was on the same line of thought though. The link you provided is for a cheaper price and a better condition manual . good job!

Re: Repair manual????????

Only problem i have is that the guy with the legit looking one has a bunch of bad marks all for the same thing. Almost every responses is the same, UPS lost, answered all emails when they claim he didn't. A little leary on this guy. I may have to look for brand new.

Re: Repair manual????????

Maybe you can get what you want on cd, I did for mine and my wifes jeep,And I'm very happy with it!

Re: Repair manual????????

If you have an "Ollie's" near you, they usually have manuals dirt cheap. What they have is hit or miss.

The manuals aren't too expensive anyhow but if you have one near you it's worth checking.

Re: Repair manual????????

cool. Thanks. I never thought of that.. My friends an assistant mngr there so i can get 20% off too. Cool. I just bought one of those scunci steam cleaners over there for $24.00 when they are 60 elsewhere.

Re: Repair manual????????

The paperback FSM is more practical than the CD to set on the jeep fender when working on the heep.

Yes it is, If you're setting the CD on the fender.;) But I usually print out the pages I need, If I need them, and then my manual is always in great, easy to read shape, Or now to be more conservative I just wag my old work laptop to the garage and Bam! There you go.:)

Re: Repair manual????????

Wow never thought of it that way. Laptop would be nice to own. Lucky dog. Thos eof us who are too cheap just have PC's

Re: Repair manual????????
