replacement seats

I noticed a previous poster mentioned replacing his CJ seats with some from a boneyard.

I woud like to replace my seats.

Around here though, you rarely ever see a Jeep in a boneyard, so my question is are there any potential donor vehicles which would potentially be a decent match for the CJ seat frame?

I guess with some adaptations, a guy could make most any highback seat work, but I;'d like to ideally find soemthing I could adapt easily to my existing seat frame.

Any experience in this matter would be a great help.

TIA

I don´t know about CJ´s per say, but on the YJ, have had luck bolting a thick piece of sheet steel (1/8") on the existing rail mounts and procuring the seats from a van. They are often mounted on a pedistal (or hightened rails) and the rails are easiely removed with the seat. Cars are harder as the seat rails are often welded to the floor. Hope I´ve helped some. This way you have some flexibility in the width of the seat rails (slide) and keep the existing tilt.[addsig]

I took my CJ5 and installed two leather/power seats out of an 98 Grand Cherokee. All it took was a couple of pieces of 3x3 angle iron and tw pieces of 2x2 square tubing. Drill a coupe of new holes and you have a two new seats. I love mine I think they are about the most comfortable seat I have ever had.[addsig]

I took the front seats out of a 91 subaru Legacy, and with a few pieces of 1/4 inch steel bars, i fashoned a pretty nice seating system in her. Then I replaced those seats with 2 old CJ-5 seats that i had laying around. I think she looks better with them in there. I have those seats and all the hardware if anyone is interested...[addsig]

Here's an idea...... How about a nice new set of Trailmax seats? I just got the thermal pros and they are so comfortable that I'm thinking of buying another set for my living room! But on a serious note, you can get a new set of seats that will be a direct fit for only a couple hundred bucks for the pair. [addsig]

I love the besttop seats I have.

One thing to think about is that cloth seats will probably mildew if left in the rain.
