rim and tire question

I just had a 4" lift put and naturally what comes next is tires. So as I'm searching for replacements for my meats, my mechanic tells me I need 15x10" rims to fit 33x12.50 tires. I currently have 15x8.5 rims and all the internet sites I look @ tell me I'll be ok. My mechanic says they're wrong.

So my question is.......Does anybody have 33x 12.50" tires on 15x8" rims or can anybody offer any insight?

Thanx in advance

DW

Check with the tire manufact. but it should be ok. That's a pretty common setup- 33x12.50x15 on a 15x8 rim!

caliper froze up...

Cool!
Thank you. I thought i was goin nuts bro. I knew it was a common setup.

What's backspacing all about?

Backspacing is the measurement from the wheel mounting surface (WMS) to the inside lip of the rim. The less backspacing the more the tire will stick out from under the fenders.

A 12.5" tire is fine on an 8" rim, that's the best recommendation by those that wheel, not those that spend their life in a shop and nose in a FSM.

I've got an 01 TJ and I run 33x1250 BFG A/T's on 15x8 rockcrawlers with 4.5in backspacing. The fit just fine, especially since I had to run 6in wide flares to keep it legal.

You will have no problems with a 33x12.5 on a 15 x 8 rim. Make sure that it is a neutral offset rim or a -6mm negative offset to run on your TJ. This is a very common set up especially in PA with there new stock flare laws. If you need any help with it please let me know.
