Rolling Squeak

Ices

My 95 Jeep Cherokee has started squeaking as I roll to a stop. It is a pulsating "bed spring" squeak that seems to stop when the wheel stops. The mechanic advised that the squeak was due to a cracked brake pad. The noise seemed to be coming from the rear wheels so I replaced the rotors and pads but the squeak is still there (the pads were cracked). Any suggestions?

I would check your front brake for piece of mind, maybe hose them off good with a can of brake cleaner and drive it to eliminate brake dust. I would also check your wheel bearings for play. I have seen bad wheel bearings cause all kinds of crazy brake issues. I just had a car in the shop that had a brake sqeak issue and the lady said it was in the front and it turned out to be in the rear. Its hard to verify sometimes where its coming from. I love having a lift at work for such issues. Good luck[addsig]

Ok, all brakes now replaced and the noise still exsists. It definately sounds like something is out of round and rubbing against something as the wheel rotates. Someone suggested an axle seal is gone, another suggested bearings - but with bearings, I think I would hear a constant grind as the wheel rotates and this is a definate squeak as the wheel hits a particular part in the rotation. Maybe an allignment issue or wheel balance issue? Not sure where to go to next. It always seems that the garage I take it to just wants to sell me a repair without necessarily being what is wrong. (Chrysler 5 star is the worst for this in my area). If anyone has had similar issues, please post your advice or results. Thanks,[addsig]
