rpm gages??

My b/f owns a 1981 cj7, with a 1977 amc v8 304 in it. What would be the best kind of rpm gage for this? Please help me as I am pretty clueless about engines and stuff, but want to surprize him.

They seem to have a huge selection. Most tachs are generic, and can fit any engine (usually you select the size engine via a switch). You just need to decide if he will mount it in the dash or on the steering column / top of the dash, and then what color / size to get him

Personnally I use a sun pro 2 tach from Autozone.com, but if you really what to get them a nice one i would get one of the stock ones that mounts in the dash next to the steering wheel. YOu can get these in most online catalogs like www.4wd.com www.quadratec.com. And look for the stock tach for a 77-80 304 v8 equiped cj-7 or cj-5, a good bet is also ebay if you feel like going through that.

Hi, sorry this has nothing to do with tach.s, I'm wondering, where you live? It has to be a state with little or no smog to allow a 77 V8 in a later model CJ. Your lucky! Out here California, that can never happen!. V8 swapps can occure, but the V8 has to be newer than the vehicle, and any and all smog assoicated with that motor's year has to be used.

Hey jprtroy, I actually live in Charlottetown Prince Edward I sland Canada!!! A long way from you. There are no restrictions here (at least that I am aware of). Smog would have to be very little to none. Yeah I guess we are lucky. PEI is just a really big sand bar. Population of about 160 000. It is a great place though. Lots of great offroading sites.
