Shakes and clicks around turns....

Every since I bought my Jeep, Its been making a clicking noise and bumps back in forth when going around a turn and giving it gas. I was told that it could be my rear locker or because of the 4.10 gears. Any input would be helpful :???:

What kind of locker? Lunch box lockers are pretty noisey. The gear ratio should have nothing to do with noise.

Can't help you with the locker......but it's not the 4.10 gears. Got those in both of our Jeeps and never had an issue. Since it's occuring in turns, I would think it's got something to do with the locker.

Sounds like the locker, clicks would be it disengaging and re-engaging and the shakes would be the indication of it trying to turn both wheels at the same rate during a turn. Both are much more noticeable on the SWB of a jeep, does it scrub the inside tire during turns as well? If so it is definitely the locker. Hope that helps!

Gears do not make noise (not the type you are describing) regardless of ratio. If it IS the gears, it will vibrate REALLY bad... Now lockers, on the other hand (especially Detroit) have been known to do what you are describing. So the big question is, what kind of locker do you have?

If you want to know if it is the locker, take a turn (either side, but make it a sharp one) while coasting, and then the same turn while applying power. If it is the locker (assuming an automatic one), you shoul dhave NO noise while coasting, and clicking and banging while aplying power.

sounds exactly like what a lunch box locker should sound like. it the cam's on the locker ratcheting, the sqirlyness is the locker locking and disengaging

I agree, it must be a lunch box locker you have. I have Lock Rights and quite frankly they can be scary in CJ5 causing the jeep to hop, skip, jump, & clank as you go down the road. One characteristic of the lunch box too is when you have the power on it will resist turning on asphalt to the point you have to back off the power to let it turn then power on again.

Sorry it took so long for the reply, but by what you guys are saying, I'm guessing its the locker... Its only while giving it gas while turning it'll hop and give me whiplash and make a bunch of noise haha... is that normal? sounds like its going to break something... I never had a locker in my other jeeps
