i can just pull it right off ,but i dont see how it bolts/fastens to the actual shift for the transmission....needless to say it has alot of play in it lol
also...when i slow to a stop and take it out of gear or engage clutch i hear a few quick clinks...when i get down to say 2-3 mph coming to a stop....u-joint possibly?
other than that....just got it yesterday and i absolutely love it !!! (84 cj7)
155,000 miles and running strong! got it out in the mud today for the first time, what a feeling!!! thanks for any help! Dave[addsig]

It has a square peice that slides over it so
does the tansfer case both of the will pull
off/apart...so you can xtend them th TJs' do
it too, just pull it apart and fix the little latch that is broke..

I have an 84 cj also. jhiggins is right about the square end of the shifter. its prolly just worn from the years of shifting. i'd thought about drilling thru both the shifter and the piece that comes from the transfer case and putting a 1/4" bolt thru them to tighten it up.[addsig]

That is exactly what I did and it works wonders
but you can also get a new shifter if you wanna spend
the $$$$ on one.....Good luck :-D [addsig]
