My uncle did something very crazy with the steering column. It is a amc no tilt column. I have the cj5 1979. Well it goes under the dash and through the floor. It wiggles and I am trying to fix the wiggle. Are there any type of brackets or special floor plates to help this. Also is the steering shaft suppose to be braced in the engine space. Just needs some help and if anyone who has pictures would help a lot.

I have the steering column apart. It took awhile my uncle put this clear plastic seal in it so stuff would not unscrew. I have to get all new turn signal part found those my were all broken. Also the steering wheel was not even put together right. I am surprised I was not killed. I finally beat the key lock out it had where you able to push in to disengage was partial broken and jammed.

So any help would be great.

One positive the manifold headers I got from ebay fit yeah !:D

It looks fine to me. Where exactly does it wiggle at? Check that u-joint, it's most likely worn out.

Your going to have to drill out the broken bolts out and re-install new ones to this bracket. The best thing to use is an easy out and you might have to use a tap to clean out the threads.
The same with this one. This is a hazard since the collar is only held on the splines without any compression from the clamp due to the broken bolt.

I hope you have all the components for this. The steering shaft is held by a bearing thats on the upper column housing. This housing is retained by a steel plate with 4 tabs that is retained by the notches on that tube end. The bolts are a torx head that needs to be installed with loctite. Do you have pic's of the upper section of the column parts and pieces?

Ok I have the entire steering column out and shaft. The old column was out of a 1976 this was painted on the side. Looks like my uncle ran the rod all the way to the steering wheel and he used a pipe clamp to hold it together. Need all new parts so it does not wiggle. All the u-joints were fine, but the bearings are shot. Found a used steering column which has all the parts. Now to start to put it back together. Any words of wisdom or hints on steering column shaft length and placement to miss a chevy 350 block engine mounts. I also have power steering. Anyone have pictures of theirs. Thanks:)

Steelheadz the bolts you see are right through the firewall and are nut and bolt. I am in the process of looking for a new bracket and flaming river has a great floor mount I am looking at to hold the column still.

Anything else you see or suggest would be great even pictures.

Thanks for your help.:)
