Stock gearing differences???

I have heard a few guys on here saying that they run 2100 rpm with 31's at 55mph and a couple even claimed similar with 33's...Well, I have stock 225 tires and I am running 2400 rpm at 55mph. Is this normal??? It is a 98 TJ Wrangler with a 2.5

Oh My!

The number of engine cylinders might also matter in this comparison.

I would expect that a 4-squirrel Jeep engine would be turning a higher RPM than a 6-squirrel Jeep engine at a given road speed, with both transmissions in a 1:1 gear, with identically sized tires because of the higher (numerically) differential ratios typically supplied with the 4-squirrel powered Jeeps.

Yes?...No?...Maybe?

Gadget,

That makes all the sense in the world. Sometimes its the obvious answers you miss! That makes me feel kinda stupid!

that makes sense!

with stock gearing on a 4.0 (3.07:1), my odometer reads 1700 when the speedometer reads 65... but that would mean i'm actually going faster
