Supplied air respirator

I've been looking at supplied air respirators for when I sandblast and paint my
Jeep. I'm not looking to spend too much, but don't want something that will jeopardize my safety. I noticed some units that are sold pretty frequently on ebay, they are the blue survivair ones, i think the model is SURVIVAIR-Model 9800-32. Does anyone know how well these respirators work?

I like Survivair gear, I prefer MSA, but Survivair is good stuff. The problem is that without trying it on first there's no way to ensure a correct fit, though your leak factor can be a little higher on a supplied air setup than air purifying. It seems like a little overkill to go supplied air anyway (unless you're going to make a business out of it), why not go with a full face air purifying mask with an organic vapor cartridge and a particulate pre-filter?

Or really even a half mask would be fine as long as you wore appropriate eye protection.

What are you using to as a fresh air delivery system? If you're planning on running it off of a run of the mill air compressor you're asking to asphyxiate yourself

i think i can sum up what hes tryin to say in a few words commpresser oil droplets. fine for air tools not so hot for your lungs

The kit includes a mask, 50ft hose, and oil-less air pump with filter. Right now my plan is to just blast and paint the Jeep body and frame, but I know that I will come up with plenty of other projects that need sand blasting and painting down the road...figured I might as well get the supplied air now and be prepared; plus the friend that is lending me his sand blaster and paint gun will likely want to borrow the respirator to blast and paint his Mustang. Anyway, yesterday I saw an auction for a suvivair kit on ebay, and figured that there wouldn't be any harm in offering $260 (almost $100 less than the starting bid) for the kit which was brand new, and low and behold, the seller took my offer. I think what I will do is just take the kit into my local paint shop before using it to make sure everything is in good shape, and get started again on my never-ending project.

I didn't use a mask..cough,cough...and it worked fine....sniff, sniff. You'll just get some strange colored boogers for a while..hack, hack...
